LA CRIOLLITA CAFETERIA – Restaurant
A no-frills Cuban cafeteria on NW 79th Street across from the Metrorail, open from before dawn and running on cortaditos and counter service. There is a small recessed dining room, a few outdoor seats and a ventanita window for anyone who just wants coffee and a sandwich to go. The pan con bistec — thin steak, tomato, lettuce, a tangle of matchstick potatoes — is the thing to order, and the menu behind it is enormous and cheap. Diners return for the price and the strength of the coffee. Old-school, and unbothered about it.
