LA PERLA DEL SUR CIENFUEGOS – Restaurant

Cienfuegos is nicknamed the pearl of Cuba's south coast, and this family-run room on West Flagler Street carries the name plainly. Doors open at seven, and the day runs on charcoal-grilled churrasco, ropa vieja with white rice and sweet plantains, bistec de palomilla and filete de cerdo, plus pork chops cooked thin the old way with onions. The batidos are worth ordering, mango especially. Diners consistently remark on how much food arrives for the money and how little fuss surrounds it. A neighbourhood Cuban restaurant doing exactly that, and doing it every day.
