A working cafeteria-restaurant on SW 102nd Avenue that opens at six in the morning and cooks Cuban and Dominican home food straight through the day. Start with mariquitas - plantain or malanga, sliced thin and fried crisp - or stuffed fried plantains packed with beef or shrimp. The soups run on a calendar: corn on Tuesday, beef on Wednesday, plantain Thursday, fish Friday. Saturday belongs to the lechon with rice and gandules. Regulars treat it as a counter to lean on rather than a night out. Early, cheap, and unfailingly the same.
