Sonata is the restaurant and lounge built into the Mahaffey Theater on First Street South, and it is a proper kitchen rather than a lobby bar. Coastal cooking with a Southern accent: pork belly burnt ends, blue crab and burrata, seared diver scallops, a Duroc pork porterhouse chop, chocolate trilogy to finish. Windows run from the marina to the skyline, and a six-metre moon sculpture hangs over the lounge. It fills before curtain and again after the encore, and you do not need a ticket to sit down. Downtown St. Petersburg's best-placed dining room.
