A Cuban counter inside a coin laundry on SW 27th Avenue, open every hour of every day — which is exactly the kind of detail that makes a place indispensable. Mary's Cafe turns out pan con bistec, croquetas, empanadas and Cuban sandwiches from about five and a half dollars, alongside a juice-and-batido bar and colada strong enough to justify the trip on its own. Regulars order while the machines run and eat at the outside tables. Nobody comes for the room. Everybody comes back for the sandwich.
