MI ABUELITA'S KITCHEN – Restaurant

Hialeah Cuban that opens at five in the morning, which tells you exactly who it is for. The cooking is homestyle and unapologetic: pan con bistec, bistec a caballo, masas de cerdo fritas, filetillo de pollo, pollo empanizado, higado a la italiana, enchilado de camarones, tamal en cazuela, chicken empanadas, croqueta preparada. The cafe con leche gets singled out as often as anything on the plate, and so do the prices. The room was redone not long ago and reads bright and clean. Nothing fancy — just cooking that tastes like somebody's grandmother made it.
