A neighbourhood Latin cafe on SW 97th Avenue that opens at seven in the morning and keeps going until ten at night, which tells you most of what you need to know about who eats here and when. The cooking is unshowy and properly seasoned: ropa vieja with rice and beans, sweet maduros, and a steak sandwich layered with ham that regulars order without looking at the menu. Portions are generous, prices fair, and the staff treat a first visit like a return. Not a destination, and not trying to be. Just the plate the neighbourhood wants.
