Seiji “Ike” Ikemizu grew up on Tokunoshima, cooked in Tokyo and New York, opened in downtown Miami in 1996, and moved the second act to Pines Boulevard in 2014. The room is plain and calm on purpose. Order the Mikan soup — pork broth with chicken, scallop, shrimp and dumplings — then tuna yukke, octopus carpaccio with kimchee and miso, or the sashimi salad. Sake, beer and wine are chosen to sit behind the food rather than in front of it. Book ahead for five or more. Traditional, unshowy, and run by someone who has done this a long time.
