MOTTAI – Restaurant
A bold, contemporary Japanese room on Ponce de Leon Boulevard in Coral Gables, built around a sushi counter and a grill that turns out American wagyu. The cold plates set the tone - kampachi with pomelo and lemongrass, hamachi in white soy ponzu, tuna tartare under beluga caviar - before the kitchen moves to enoki mushroom tempura, sake-butter steamed clams, rock shrimp and black cod glazed with den miso and yuzu soy. Wagyu ribeye and flat iron arrive with shiso tempura and miso butter. Lunch is quick; dinner is not. Precise cooking, priced accordingly.
