ORIGINAL RANCH HOUSE – Restaurant

The last Ranch House standing. What began as a Fort Lauderdale diner in 1959 and grew into a chain has shrunk back to one room on West 84th Street in Hialeah, where the American comfort food stayed put and the Cuban neighbourhood moved in around it. Breakfast is the strong suit: two eggs with corned beef hash and hash browns loaded with cheese, ham and onion. Then come the sliders, two to an order on toasted potato rolls, a ten-ounce patty melt on rye, Ranch House fries under cheese and gravy, lasagna, and palomilla steak with black beans and rice. Two menus, one counter, no fuss.
