TOMATO AND BASIL – Restaurant
An Italian kitchen on NE 125th Street that quietly runs an Argentinian menu alongside it, and the crossover is the point. Pizzas come Margherita, Di Parma under prosciutto, and as the stuffed fugazzeta rellena; the pasta side turns out cannelloni and lasagna. From the other tradition: mushroom-and-brie empanadas, the milanesa sandwich, chicken and eggplant parmigiana in portions that overshoot the price, and flan con dulce de leche to close. Warm bread and a house dip land before you order anything. Diners talk repeatedly about the consistency and how fast the staff make them feel like regulars. Dinner only.
