VICKY BAKERY – Restaurant

The Miami bakery that turned a Hialeah storefront into a South Florida institution. Antonio and Gelasia Cao met working at a Havana bakery, came over as exiles, and opened Vicky in 1972; the recipes have passed down through the family untouched. That means pastelitos baked all day in flaky golden layers, croquetas and bocaditos by the tray, sandwiches pressed on Cuban bread, and cafecito and café con leche from the moment the lights go on. Custom cakes, catering trays and refresquitos fill in around it. Half a century in, and still the neighborhood's morning routine.
