Breakfast runs the day at this South Dixie Highway diner in Palmetto Bay, where the griddle is going by seven and the doors close mid-afternoon. The menu is classic American morning food done generously: ham and cheese omelettes with fries, blueberry pancakes, chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, and a run of Benedicts from the Santa Fe to the avocado. Steak, eggs and home potatoes hold down the heartier end, and the grits get their own following. Regulars talk less about any single dish than about the room, the cheerful servers who know the menu cold, and coffee that keeps coming. A neighbourhood habit, not a destination.
