A compact Greek kitchen on East 69th Street, working the Lenox Hill lunch and dinner crowd until midnight. Yia Yia's is built for souvlaki: pork, chicken, lamb, shrimp or bifteki, ordered on a stick, folded into a pita, or plated with sides. Gyro comes three ways. Beyond the grill there is real home cooking, pastitsio, moussaka, briam, stuffed peppers and tomatoes, avgolemono soup, and starters of spanakopita, tiropita, dolmadakia and grilled octopus. Finish with a yogurt parfait, galaktoboureko or baklava. Neighbours treat it as the dependable weeknight default, and the recipes taste like somebody's grandmother wrote them down.
