Zaro's Bakery (Grand Central) – Restaurant

A long-running New York family bakery's counter inside Grand Central, open from six in the morning for the commuter tide. The case is unapologetically classic — black-and-white cookies, challah, rugelach, babka, chocolate croissants — with a bagel station where the everything bagel and scallion cream cheese does most of the work, and iced coffee by the bucket. It is a terminal bakery first and a destination second, and opinion splits accordingly: some prize the speed and the familiarity, others find the baking closer to production line than oven.
