Angel Bakery and Cafe Inc. – Restaurant

A small kosher bakery and cafe on Ventura Boulevard, certified parve by the Rabbinical Council of California, which is why it closes early on Friday and stays shut on Saturday. Angel Bakery is best known for its sufganiyot, the filled doughnuts eaten at Hanukkah, and fills the rest of the year with challah, bourekas and rugelach. The savoury side runs to Israeli pita and a sabich sandwich, a long sesame roll packed with fried eggplant, hard-boiled egg, tomato, cucumber and a spicy spread. Good coffee is poured alongside. The space is tiny, with limited seating and a steady weekday trade.
