BELOW ZERO FROZEN DESSERTS – Restaurant
Below Zero scoops Argentine-style ice cream from a small storefront on Northeast 54th Street, opening late afternoon and running to ten. The flavour board is long and unhurried: dulce de leche and its granizado version, stracciatella, almond cream, flan con dulce de leche, banana con dulce de leche, cannoli, rum raisin, butter pecan, espresso, plus vegan guava, chocolate and mango. Alfajor helado and bombon escoces cover the handheld end, and ice cream cakes are built for four, eight or twelve. The owners trace the recipes back to a 1991 summer job in Argentina and a family shop opened in 1995.
