BIRCHWOOD INN – American
The Birchwood went up on Beach Drive in 1924 as the Lantern Lane Apartments and is now an eighteen-room boutique hotel on the National Register, facing North Straub Park and the Vinoy marina. Its restaurant, Birch & Vine, spreads across a main dining room, a garden, a terrace, sidewalk tables and two private rooms under Chef Jason Cline. House-made focaccia and smoked fish dip open; steak frites with truffle aioli, miso-glazed salmon in saffron lobster broth and the Lantern Lane half chicken follow. Upstairs the Canopy rooftop pours cocktails over Tampa Bay. The wine list runs past two hundred bottles.
