Captain D's has been frying seafood since 1969, when it opened in Donelson, Tennessee, as Mr. D's Seafood and Hamburgers. Its Central Florida kitchens keep that formula intact: batter-dipped fish fillets with hush puppies and two classic sides, butterfly shrimp by the dozen, hand-breaded chicken tenders, catfish and southern-style whitefish in seasoned cornmeal breading. Platters combine fillets, shrimp and seafood-stuffed crab shells. Grilled whitefish and wild Alaska salmon come over rice with a breadstick for anyone skipping the fryer.
