CHICOS RESTAURANT – Restaurant

A Cuban cafeteria on West 12th Avenue in Hialeah that opens well before dawn and runs around the clock at weekends, family-run, parked in a shopping centre with room for a crowd. Breakfast is the Super: palomilla steak, two eggs, Chico's potatoes or white rice, toast and cafe con leche. The kitchen stakes its name on soups and potajes, fabada asturiana and sopa de pollo among them. Elsewhere sit serrucho en escabeche, shrimp ceviche, croquetas, the Hialeah Grand sandwich of ham, pork, salami and mortadella, and a super frita cubana. Weekends bring live Cuban music and a livelier, later room.
