COOPS PIT BBQ – Restaurant

Smoke on NW 7th Avenue, run by the Cooper brothers since the late nineties, and the pit does the talking. Ribs come off it tender under a house sauce that leans smoky and hot. The card is unusual for Miami barbecue: alongside pulled pork, BBQ tidbits and a chicken-and-rib combo sit bite-size gator nuggets, a ground gator burger, and a Louisiana spicy gator sausage burger. Catfish fillet sandwiches, a triple-decker topped with coleslaw, loaded chili cheese fries and a churrasco skirt steak dinner fill the rest. Sides mean biscuits, coleslaw, fries or potato salad. The menu runs bilingual. No fuss.
