El Atlacatl has anchored a stretch of SW 8th Street in Little Havana for more than two decades, built around Salvadoran cooking and, by its own description, the only full bar attached to a Salvadoran restaurant in Miami. Pupusas, filled with cheese and loroco and griddled until the edges crisp, are the calling card, served alongside caldo de res and a coconut-milk seafood soup regulars order on weekends. A weekday happy hour runs late afternoon, and lunch specials keep prices down. Reviewers highlight the carne asada and a recent remodel as much as the pupusas, with weekend waits fairly common.
