El Cristo Restaurant has served Cuban food in Little Havana since 1972, when it began as a small cafe in Westchester selling guava-and-cheese pastries and Cuban coffee before relocating to 1543 SW 8th Street. Today it is a family-style dining room known for a large menu of traditional dishes: ropa vieja, lechón asado, Cuban sandwiches, tostones and a full Cuban breakfast served before 11 a.m. Dine-in, takeout and catering are offered, and the restaurant remains a fixture for both longtime Little Havana residents and visitors walking Calle Ocho. It is unrelated to the Indiantown restaurant carrying a similarly spelled name.
