GUTHRIE'S CHICKEN – Restaurant

One thing, done since 1965: chicken fingers. Guthrie's started in Alabama and its Front Beach Road outpost keeps the formula intact, a box of hand-breaded fingers with Texas toast, fries, slaw and the signature sauce the whole operation is really built around. Hal Guthrie opened the first one in Haleyville, Alabama, and the chain has never bothered to broaden much beyond it; a cookie in the box is about as adventurous as things get. There is no sprawling menu to get lost in, which is exactly the point. It stays open late, which matters on this stretch of beach. Order the box, dip everything, do not overthink it.
