Family owned and open from six in the morning, the Hollywood Donut Factory on North 28th Avenue hand-makes its donuts fresh every day, more than a hundred varieties on rotation, from Boston cream and Bavarian cream to chocolate dip and seasonal pumpkin. The kitchen keeps going well past the pastry case: egg-and-cheese sandwiches, three-egg omelettes, pancakes, waffles, biscuits and gravy, then subs, wraps, salads, burgers and Hebrew National hot dogs at midday. Illy coffee backs it all, as espresso, cappuccino, cold brew or nitro. The donuts are the headline. The rest is no afterthought.
