Jeni Britton Bauer started making ice cream in Columbus in 2002 using milk from a single family dairy in Appalachian Ohio, and the Winter Park scoop shop on Orlando Avenue serves the results until midnight. The counter carries the full rotation - Salty Caramel, Wildberry Lavender, the cayenne-spiked Queen City - with dairy-free and gluten-free options given the same attention as the rest. Britton Bauer took a James Beard award for her cookbook. Late hours, small batches, and flavours that read like a recipe rather than a label.
