Breakfast starts early on East Sligh Avenue, and it is soul food from the first plate. JJ's Big Breakfast stacks a waffle with eggs, grits and bacon or sausage; shrimp and grits and a salmon croquette plate cover the rest of the morning, and a fried chicken breast combo bridges into lunch. Weekends bring a fuller soul food menu. The doors close by mid-afternoon, so this is a morning place and it knows it. Get there before the grits run out.
