The dining room inside The Karol Hotel on Ulmerton Road, and considerably more ambitious than the phrase 'hotel restaurant' usually promises. Katch Bistro cooks New American with the Florida coast in front of it: fried deviled eggs to start, salmon set on crispy rice cakes with creamy leeks, a shrimp po'boy at lunch, stuffed portobello for whoever is not eating fish, blueberry cheesecake after. There is terrace seating over the lake downstairs and a rooftop bar, Vantage, above. Guests routinely register surprise at the quality and the service. Worth booking even if you are not staying.
