A quiet room off South Tamiami Trail where the kitchen still does things the long way. La Fontanella has been cooking from scratch in Bonita Springs since 2000, and its calling card is the vitello osso buco — veal shank braised in red wine over creamy parmesan risotto, finished with demi-glace. Veal scaloppini comes lighter, with shallots, capers, tomato and lemon in white wine; bolognese and house-made desserts hold up their end. The wine list runs long, Italian and New World both. Guests mention the portions and the owners' constant presence. Old-school Italian, done properly.
