MAKOTO – Restaurant
Third floor of Bal Harbour Shops, and one of the few restaurants inside a mall anywhere that could hold its own on any street. Makoto carries chef Makoto Okuwa's name and his precision: sushi and sashimi cut with restraint, a robata grill working the other half of the menu, omakase for anyone willing to let the kitchen decide. Regulars order the serrano chili tuna crispy rice almost reflexively, then miso sea bass under crispy kale. India Mahdavi's redesign gave the room a bolder, more theatrical look. Polished, expensive, and unusually consistent.
