MALAKOR THAI CAFE – Restaurant

Northwood Village, 25th Street, in the shell of the old Hurricane Bar & Grill — and the previous artist's murals are still on the wall, because the owner refused to paint over another artist's work. Malakor means papaya, and the green papaya salad is the tell: the chilies that heat it and the lemongrass in the Tom Kha Gai are largely chef-grown. Thai crispy duck, green curry, drunken noodles and crispy money bags share the menu with a working sushi bar. Open since 2011. Colourful, affordable, and far more personal than the strip-mall Thai norm.
