MELAO BAKERY – Restaurant

Puerto Rican baking and Puerto Rican cooking under one roof on Fortune Road: a full pastry case out front, pastelillos de guayaba and coffee at the counter, and a hot line behind it that runs all day. That line turns out mofongo with bistec encebollado, arroz con gandules with ribs and amarillitos, pollo asado with yuca and malanga, carne frita and pechuga al ajillo. A salad bar and made-to-order sandwiches round it out — the tripleta and the pastrami both have their partisans. Generous trays, a room that fills at lunch, and no pretence anywhere.
