MI COLOMBIA – Restaurant

A North Beach cafeteria that opens at half past seven and cooks Colombian home food straight through to evening. The bandeja paisa is the headline order - beans, rice, chicharron, egg, plantain, the lot - and the chicharron de cerdo gets ordered on its own just as often. Mornings run to calentado con carne and scrambled eggs with arepa and cheese; Saturdays bring a pot of sancocho de res. Empanadas come out fresh, and the natural fruit juices, maracuya especially, are worth the detour. Regulars talk about the portions and the family-run warmth in the same breath. Unfussy, and very good at it.
