OLD DIXIE CAFE NORTH – Restaurant

A Hobe Sound diner on Federal Highway that runs the way diners are supposed to: coffee poured early, staff who know the regulars, no fuss anywhere. Mornings are pancakes, waffles, omelets, egg sandwiches and corned beef hash; later the kitchen turns to Southern comfort - meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, shepherd's pie, slow-cooked pot roast, chicken and dumplings - alongside steaks and fresh seafood. There is indoor and outdoor seating, portions that don't apologise, and pricing locals keep calling fair. It isn't trying to be anything but the neighbourhood's kitchen. That is precisely the point.
