Bao Bao Cafe – chinese_restaurant

A small counter on West 39th Street in the Garment District, Bao Bao Cafe feeds the midtown lunch rush with noodles and rice boxes rather than dumpling-house theatre. The house bowl is Bao Bao Noodles, wheat noodles in broth under minced pork; Bam Bam Noodles is the dry, seasoned version of the same idea. There is a glass-noodle little hot pot, braised beef shank noodle soup and ramen. Rice boxes arrive with tea egg and pickled radish — marinated beef, pork belly, spareribs, eel, popcorn chicken. Snack on fried dipping buns or seaweed salad. Fast, cheap and squarely southern Chinese.
