BIRDY SPECIALTY CAFÉ-BAR&KITCHEN – cafe

Birdy sits on Moriah Avenue in Haifa, a specialty coffee bar with a kitchen that punches well past café expectations. Almost everything starts with bread they bake: focaccia and brioche underpin a roasted vegetable vegan sandwich of sweet potato, aubergine and pepper in nut sauce, an omelette sandwich, a tuna slider. The kimchi soup is the one regulars name first, house-pickled Korean cabbage with tofu, leek, nori and sesame oil. Then salmon and tofu bowls, caprese and antipasti salads, French toast with camembert and cranberry confit, Basque cheesecake, kartoshka. Wine follows coffee. Outdoor tables, dogs welcome, doors open by eight.
