Budapest cafe – restaurant
Hungarian home cooking on the Upper East Side, served daily from mid-morning to evening in a small Second Avenue room. The entree list reads like a Budapest kitchen: veal goulash with nokedli, chicken paprikash in sour cream with the same homemade noodles, stuffed cabbage, stuffed peppers in tomato sauce, layered rakott krumpli of potato, sausage and egg, and turoscsusza with farmer's cheese and bacon. Wienerschnitzel and a breaded chicken cutlet arrive with fries or mash. A weekday lunch special bundles soup or salad, an entree and a slice of pie. Vegetarian plates appear too. Crepes, strudels and Hungarian wines finish.
