CAFE EVERGREEN – Restaurant

There is no fryer at Café Evergreen, and that single constraint shapes everything on the Tamiami Trail in Nokomis. Owners Annette and Ted build around fresh, locally sourced, organic-leaning cooking with roughly a third of the usual salt, and sauces, soups and dressings made in house. Raw avocado sliders arrive between dehydrated onion bread. Cheesy quinoa cakes come with tamari; a vegan meat loaf of quinoa and lentil sits under apple gravy and cauliflower mash. Ahi tuna and kelp-noodle café bowls, Thai and beet salads, a chicken pot pie. The juice bar pours a house water-kefir mojito. Closed on Sundays.
