E.A.T. – american_restaurant
E.A.T. has run out of 1064 Madison Avenue on Manhattan's Upper East Side since 1973, when Eli Zabar opened it as his original showcase for careful, simple craftsmanship in food. The counter and dining room move from breakfast pastries through lunch into early dinner, built around overstuffed sandwiches on thin bread, hearty stand-alone salads, matzoh ball chicken soup and borscht, plus caviar service for anyone dressing the meal up. Grilled swordfish and a coconut layer cake round out the heartier and sweeter ends of the menu. Regulars keep returning for the consistency more than any single dish, year after year.
