El Canal Cafe is a weekday-morning Cuban counter on NW South River Drive in Medley, open 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed weekends. Breakfast plates carry the load: dos huevos with a choice of meat, papas, tostada and cafe con leche; a full tortilla plato; and pan con tortilla loaded with ham, cheese and bacon. A rotating weekly menu adds picadillo a la criolla, chuleta ahumada and pechuga empanizada, while sandwiches cover pan con bistec, pan con lechon and a classic Cubano. The ventanita pours cortaditos and coladas alongside tostada with queso suizo. It is fast and unmistakably Cuban.
