GARY'S OYSTER BAR & SEAFOOD – Restaurant

Polk County's oldest oyster bar has been shucking in Lake Alfred for more than four decades, and it has never bothered to smarten itself up. Oysters come raw, steamed or baked; the rest of the board runs from fried and broiled seafood to the harder-to-find stuff, including alligator tail, frog legs and conch fritters, with cocktail sauce, tartar and dressings all made in house. Regulars come for the low-lit, no-frills room and the staff who remember them. It opens for dinner only, and it fills fast. Old-Florida fish house, still doing exactly what it always did.
