Behind a dark, contemporary front on Harding Avenue in Surfside, Hikari serves modern Japanese under kosher certification - three preset tasting menus plus a broad a la carte list. Sashimi and nigiri are plated with restraint, a hand-roll bar adds something to do with your hands, and the cooked side stretches to tempura mushrooms, lamb chops and wagyu skewers. The room was designed for atmosphere as much as dinner: low light, curated music, a bar worth arriving early for. Guests describe the fish as excellent and the omakase as thoughtfully paced. Refined, and not remotely stuffy.
