MANGOS CAFE AND SPECIALTY STORE – Restaurant
Caribbean and Southern cooking on North 56th Street in Temple Terrace, started by David and Nadege Andre and grown out of a catering business into a room people plan their week around. The menu rotates by day: island plates like oxtail from Tuesday to Thursday, then a soul-food turn Friday through Sunday - fried catfish, smothered turkey wings, Creole shrimp and grits, macaroni and cheese, fried red snapper. Once a month Sunday brunch brings chicken and waffles. Service runs cafeteria-style down a line. Portions land generously and the care shows.
