The Gan Shmuel junction branch is a road-trip McDonald's: a drive-thru lane, a playground, a birthday room, a McCafe counter and a car park that fills with people breaking a drive near Hadera. The food is the Israeli edition of the chain, beef grilled over coals rather than a flat-top, fries, a salad chopped to order, and this branch trades on Saturdays, which makes it one of the few weekend options around. Nobody is calling it a night out. But with a restless back seat and road still to cover, it does precisely what it needs to.
