Up on level three of Neiman Marcus at the Village of Merrick Park, Mariposa is the shopping-day lunch that Coral Gables has quietly kept to itself. The ritual is fixed: a cup of consomme and a warm popover to start, then a citrus shrimp salad, chicken Milanese, crispy chicken paillard, lemon butter crab pasta or a grilled steak sandwich, with lobster bisque when the room turns cool. A warm chocolate chip cookie closes it out. Anyone can walk in off the mall floor. Bright, unhurried, and better than a department-store restaurant has any need to be.
