OLD SALTY DOG – Restaurant

Sarasota's old-Florida waterfront standby since 1985, with open-air rooms on City Island and Siesta Key. The menu is unapologetically coastal: housemade spicy crab dip, conch fritters with sweet chilli mango, steamed peel-and-eat shrimp tossed in garlic butter and Old Bay, mussels in white wine and garlic, New England clam chowder and a fish gumbo that does not hide its heat. Grouper, mahi and salmon come charbroiled, blackened or beer-battered, as sandwiches, island tacos with pineapple slaw, or firecracker wraps. Flip-flops expected. Four decades on, it has barely changed - which is the point.
