Cafe Hamoshava occupies the courtyard of the Immanuel Guesthouse on Auerbach Street, a hundred-and-fifty-year-old building in Tel Aviv's American-German Colony, and the setting does most of the work before the coffee arrives. The counter keeps it simple and does it properly: sandwiches, pastries, cakes and good coffee. Guided tours of the historic house run from here, and on Fridays the yard fills with a local market — produce, makers' stalls, live music. A pocket of quiet history a few streets from the Jaffa traffic. Worth the detour.
