Café Shapira – cafe

A neighbourhood cafe on Ralbag Street, deep in Tel Aviv's Shapira quarter, with chairs scattered outdoors among the trees and local kids drifting past the tables. It opened in March 2015 with an explicit brief: to be a meeting place for the neighbourhood, for enterprise, conversation, dancing and music, as much as a place to eat. Brunch is the main event, cooked home-style, with vegetarian and vegan options throughout, fresh pastries, juices and shakes, and desserts made on site. Coffee is taken seriously; beer, wine and spirits are poured too. Tuesdays bring a long-running reggae night, Wednesdays documentaries. Closed Saturdays.
