Frenkel Street in Florentin, and a room the neighbourhood treats as an extension of its own kitchen. Comedian Tom Yaar opened it, and a renovation added a night-time incarnation, Bar Haambatia, so one address covers morning coffee and evening drinks. Days run on Italian espresso and matcha, a slice of PB and J, and on Saturdays a shakshuka. Regulars talk about the scones and the egg salad more than anything else. Fresh pastries come out daily. Laptops are not welcome, which is the point. Small, unfussy, genuinely homey. A Florentin cafe that behaves like somebody's living room, and knows it.
