In the Shoppes of Historic Avondale, the Casbah Cafe bills itself as cafe, cabaret and lounge, and the kitchen holds up its end. Mezze arrive to be shared, because sharing is house policy: muhammara, labneh, baba ghannouj, makdous, batata harra, sigara borek stuffed with cheese, meat or spinach, zaatar-marinated olives. Then chicken or lamb shawarma served over warm hummus, musakhan wraps, mjaddara, kababs, lamb shank, lamb chops. Kunafa, baklava and a Lotus Biscoff cheesecake finish it off. Belly dancing, live music, trivia and service-industry nights fill the week; happy hour runs mid-afternoon and the doors stay open well past midnight.
